Ground Beef or Steak

Alex Johnson

Our family eats a lot of ground beef. In all kinds of meals. But the other day we had steak.

It’s not that we never have steak. Yet it’s something special. It’s different from every day. And I would imagine it’s the same for most families. Steak is a treat; ground beef is the everyday meat.

Now, you are probably wondering, what does ground beef or steak have to do with marketing?

I gave this story to point out a simple fact. Ground beef and steak are both the same and yet very different. They both came from a cow. It’s the final treatment that makes the difference. The preparation and care.

The same is true of any business. At a core level, any homestead business is exactly like another. Walmart is just as much of a store as the local grocery. And any restaurant is still just a restaurant.

If that’s the case though, why do some restaurants have a wait list and charge $100 per course? It’s all food, isn’t it? The difference is packaging and preparation.

If you package yourself as a premium, charge a premium price, and stand out from the crowd by being a little different, you will win. Your business will appeal to those looking for high-end. And drive off those who question your price, because they will know you are not their kind of business.

You get to decide as the business owner who you want to serve.

It’s time you stop trying to blend in and be everything to everyone (the proverbial ground beef) and be different. Show who you really are, who you want to serve, and charge the right price for it. Right, not rip off matters too!

Some of the best businesses in the world have found success by being a little different. Not 180, but slightly unique. And being unique draws a crowd.

What is something you can change in your business to be a little unique? Do it!
