We are drawn like moths to a flame towards anything new. The new toys our children get for their birthday are their most favorite toy ever… for a week.
The same goes for the ever-changing world of marketing. Some new tool comes along promising to make our marketing life easy. Just buy this one tool and you will have all the customers you ever want or could dream of.
Unfortunately, it’s rarely the case.
Heck, just the other day I got an email guaranteeing me 100% email open rates. Of course, years of experience say that’s not possible, rather a scam. But what if I was not sure? Sounds like a good deal. Who wouldn’t want 100% opening rates?
We get caught up in the new, exciting, and what may seem like a screaming good solution to our problems.
Often the truth is just the opposite. We may spend 6 months or a year blogging every single day and then one day… BOOOM. Our efforts just take off and we are so busy it’s hard to breathe. Give up on day 159, and you sunk your own ship.
Small consistent efforts will always outshine jumping from thing to thing.
I am not saying do the same thing because it’s what you have always done. That’s a slow and painful way to kill your business. Just ask the pizza joint with no traffic, pealing signs, and a website from the 90’s. They got left behind.
Give your efforts time to grow up. Time to mature and become something.
Just as you plant a garden and it grows over the course of time, give your marketing time to grow. Yes, you should thin the weak plants (efforts). Just don’t give up on everything you have because something new comes along.
